Pyros Koumouions lost his family due to disease and starvation after Nazi occupation in Greece during World War II.

Pyros sent a letter of thanks to Mr. Camichos for the donations to the orphanage from the citizens of Orlando.

Listen as Pano John Camichos, talks about his father's life in Orlando, family in Volos: LISTEN Part I (17:30), and the Relief Effort to Volos: LISTEN PART II (12:48) in these excerpts from an oral history interview on February 20, 2015.

As Lisa Camichos documents in  Non-Governmental Relief to Greece: 1940-1949. A Comparative Study With The Truman Doctrine, Part I, page 37, the citizens of Orlando held a baseball game at Tinker Field to raise money for the Volos Relief Effort. The money raised at the game went to repair the orphanage hit by German artillery and to purchase blankets for the children.

With the permission of Ms. Camichos her document is available on Orlando Memory:
